Police Chief Timothy T. Tyler and Assistant to the Chief Joe Lamberson were on hand on November 8, 2023, to celebrate the graduation of five Champaign residents from the countywide Community Police Academy. This nine-week program gave area residence an opportunity to learn about their local police departments through hands-on and classroom activities. It was hosted at the Police Training Institute in coordination with staff from multiple area agencies. Fourteen area residents completed the program, which returned this year with a limited class for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.
