Unit 4 School District requested a new traffic pattern at Kenwood Elementary School to improve student safety by separating the bus and private vehicle flows during pickup and drop-off times. Public Works staff worked with Unit 4 as well as residents and a nearby business to discuss how changes to traffic flow on Stratford Drive would affect their traffic.
In early August, a new traffic plan resulted in installation of a “no entry” flip sign and two barricades that Kenwood staff will be responsible for placing and moving. The following traffic pattern was implemented and begins 30 minutes prior to the beginning of classes until 5 minutes after the start of the school day and again from 15 minutes prior to dismissal until 15 minutes after dismissal:
- Buses will enter and exit the school parking lot off Stratford Drive and will not go south of Sheridan Drive.
- Private vehicles are directed to enter the school’s circle drive from Sheridan Drive and exit south toward Maplewood Drive.
- During pickup and drop-off times, private vehicles northbound on Stratford Drive are not permitted to proceed past the school.
