At its March 7 meeting, Champaign City Council accepted the resignation of township assessor Paul Faraci and contracted with deputy assessor Katherine Moore to serve as his replacement.
Council was told Faraci resigned in February to fill the 52nd District Senate seat in the state senate which was vacated by the death of Sen. Scott Bennett. Faraci's resignation was effective March 7.
“He made that known about a month and a half ago and allowed us to work through this process to ensure we don’t have a gap in service,” township Supervisor Andy Quarnstrom said.
Quarnstrom said that the board and staff created a panel to screen for any registered voters in the township who had the background and certifications to succeed Faraci as assessor. They weren’t able to find qualified candidates in the village, and ultimately agreed to contract the position with deputy assessor Katherine Moore.
“Speaking personally, Katie has been a great asset to the assessor’s office,” Quarnstrom said. “She is very dedicated, she has great customer service, she has good knowledge and experience as you’ll see in her contract and certifications. So I’m very confident in her ability to move into that role.”
Moore will vacate her deputy assessor post, which is an employee of the township, and accept the contract for assessor until Jan. 1, 2026, filling the term Faraci was elected to fill. Moore can return to her prior position at the end of the term.
Council approved the recommendation to contract with Moore for the position.
