City of Hoopeston Committee of the Whole met Aug. 22.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
I. Call Meeting to Order- Alderwoman Ferrell called the Meeting of the Whole to order at 6:07 pm. Clerk Lane was present by remote. The six council members present were Eyrich, Ferrell, Garrett, Lawson, Porth and Richards as well as Mayor Wise.
II. Land Bank Home Repair Grants
The topic of discussion was whether or not to contribute financially to the Land Bank to help with costs of applying for grants. The Land Bank will be applying to IHDA for a $950,000 grant to assist low income homeowners of needed repairs to their homes. The funds would be distributed to Champaign and Paxton as well as Hoopeston based on needs and income.
Champaign has contributed $500,000 and Paxton is expected to contribute $35,000.
Ferrell made a motion to contribute $50,000 from Civic reserve funds. Richards seconded the motion. Roll call vote was taken and the motion to contribute $50,000 passed 6 to 0.
