Champaign County Labor Management Health Insurance Committee met May 17.

MINUTES
I. Call to Order
Ms. Bates called the meeting to order at 3:00pm.
II. Approval of Minutes – March 22, 2022 MOTION by Mr. McMahon to approve the minutes of the March 22, 2022 meeting; seconded by Ms. Kloeppel. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED unanimously.
III. 2022 claim review
Mr. Malachowski provided handouts and a detailed review of premiums versus claims paid through the end of April 2022 and discussed the loss ratios. He stated the County may be looking at a 30% or more increase and Blue Cross Blue Shield is currently calculating the renewal for January 2023. This Committee needs to discuss and give direction to the Gallagher, as their broker.
Mr. Colbrook stated the County is trending well above the premiums paid, even without considering the four spikes, and asked how this graph compares to other counties/companies. He also asked Mr. Malachowski to explain if there is a way for the County to decrease the loss ratio. Mr. Malachowski explained that most counties/companies have a similar loss ratio at one time or another and using wellness initiatives would be the best way to drive that loss ratio down.
IV. Nomination and vote for open co‐chair position (Labor)
MOTION by Ms. Helm to nominate John Naese as the labor co‐chair; seconded by Mr. McMahon. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED unanimously.
V. Other business
Mr. Malachowski reminded the Committee of last year’s renewal where BCBS started with a 31% increase and they settled at a 7% increase.
VI. Next meeting
Mr. Burkhalter informed the Committee that he will be replacing Angela Lusk as a regular AFSCME member.
Mr. Malachowski explained that he would not have the May claim numbers before the June 14th meeting nor would he have the renewal information before the June 28th meeting. The Committee decided to cancel both June meetings and meet again on July 12, 2022

Ms. Bates adjourned the meeting at 3:37 p.m.
