City of Urbana Sustainability Advisory Commission met Feb. 1.

Call to Order, Roll Call, and Declaration of Quorum
Chair Gloss called the meeting to order, a roll was called and a quorum was present.
Approval of Minutes
Commission Member Lehmkuhl motioned to approve the minutes from the December 2021 meeting, as amended. Commission Member Wilken seconded the motion. Roll call vote to approve motion, Commission unanimously approved.

Staff Report
Geothermal Urbana-Champaign
The City is working with the Geothermal Alliance of Illinois and other supporters on a 2.0 round of bulk geothermal energy system purchase. We are aiming to have the first Geothermal Power Hour in February.
Landfill Solar 2
The City has accepted the qualifications for a landfill solar developer from SunPower. Staff and SunPower will now proceed with negotiating a lease option, securing the property for SunPower to pursue financing, incentives, and markets for a solar development.
Landscape Recycling Center
The City has accepted a bid to construct a concrete bin for composting food scraps at the Landscape Recycling Center. Construction will occur in the forthcoming months.
Public Engagement
Staff spoke to NRES 285 Student iCAP Ambassadors class about energy and climate topics.
U-Cycle
The upcoming Spring 2022 Illinois EPA household hazardous waste (HHW) event will occur in Champaign County on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Location TBD. Registration for the event will open on Monday, March 1, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. by visiting www.hhwevent.simplybook.me
The Spring 2022 County Residential Electronics Collection event will held on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Location TBA, along with registration details.
U-cycle is obtaining hauler survey information with the anticipation of the completion of the annual Urbana Waste Management Report in March 2022.
U-Cycle posted a ‘Request for Proposal’ on Friday, January 28, 2022, for curbside bagged leaf collection services for a two-year term starting with Spring leaf collection in April 2022. RFP’s are due by Friday, February, 18, 2022. Fall leaf collection services received no bidders and was insourced requiring Public Works to move staff off of street maintenance as well as the rental of a packer truck.

Commission Members Lehmkuhl continued the discussion on JEDI goal setting for the commission.
