The size of the freshman class at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign numbered 8,303 this fall, including 5,835 new students – or 70% of the total – from around the state, UIUC reports.
Total UIUC student enrollment now stands at a record 56,299, according to the university report. Within the freshman class, 1,352 come from 44 other states in the union, while 1,112 are international students, UIUC reports.
Transfer students in the fall numbered 1,266, which is below levels in past years. The top feeder Illinois colleges for UIUC were Parkland College in Champaign (187 students); College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn (105); and William Rainey Harper College in Palatine (77).
In the freshman class, the top home counties for students are Cook (2,690 students); DuPage (742); and Lake (600).
A total of 20.1% of the freshman students are classified as underrepresented minority groups, according to the UIUC report. And about the same share of the class were designated first-generation students, the report says.
