Danville Area Community College is offering a free course to students vaccinated against COVID-19.

Those students will have to prove their vaccination by showing their vaccination card either in person or by email, or text. The course will take place during the summer. Masks and social distancing will still be required for all students during the summer classes, regardless of vaccination status.

"Students who attend Danville Area Community College will have a unique, cost-saving opportunity for the summer semester if they receive the COVID-19 vaccine," Sen. Scott Bennett said in an April 16 Facebook post

There are options for what kind of class a student may want to take.

Students who have a vaccination card may select one free course for the summer to take place either in person or over the internet. There will be no course fees or tuition, although students will still have to pay for their books and pay lab fees for the course, if applicable.

DACC's vice president of Academic Affairs Natalie Page works with the college's faculty to develop in-person classes for the summer. It is possible classes may be compressed to less than seven weeks.

In person, classes resumed last month after DACC became the first community college in Illinois to vaccinate its entire staff.
