State Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) called out the governor and said that “it’s time to get the general assembly back to Springfield and enact meaningful reforms."
“The governor has a real opportunity, an opportunity to move in a new direction,” Halbrook said. But Pritzker, who had the chance “to end the failed policies of the past,” chose not to correct them.
Halbrook placed an emphasis on Illinois’ fiscal issues including “nearly a trillion dollars of unfunded pension liability, tens of billions of long-term indebtedness along with an out-of-control backlog of bills.”
"Tax increases are a leading factor to the unprecedented migration of tens of thousands of our citizens,” Halbrook said.
“To be clear there are tax increases in this budget. The governor is proposing a tax increase of nearly a billion dollars on the job creators of this great state.”
He additionally argued about the business reforms which were “negotiated and agreed to with the Republican support.”
“Now the governor’s kicking those reforms to the curb,” Halbrook commented.
“It’s time to get Illinois’ fiscal house in order. The house is on fire, and the governor is boarding up the windows and doors, turning the fire department away all the while suggesting he has it all under control and there is nothing to see here.”
