Danville FD responds to 200 fires in 2018

Danville Fire District responded to 411 calls in 2018 - 5.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Danville included 200 fires - 117 structure fires, 22 vehicle fires and 61 other fires. The fire department also responded to 17 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,227,137 in fire loss - or about $6,136 per fire.

The department also received 194 false calls, including seven malicious calls and 187 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, four fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Danville Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 43 active employees and 79 retired or inactive employees, was $2,652,589 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $14,261 for every fire in 2017.
