Cost of college went up for all students at Illinois State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.2 percent for 2018-19 at Illinois State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Illinois residents paid $14,516 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $455 more than the $14,061 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 79.4 percent more than residents this year, or $26,040. Their price tag grew 3.5 percent from $25,168 in 2017-18.

About 97 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Illinois residents. And about 3 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 86 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 2,211 students received grants or scholarships totaling $21.2 million and 2,042 students took out student loans totaling more than $15.8 million.

Including all undergraduates (20,635), 10,535 students used grants or scholarships totaling $98 million, and 10,260 students took out $65.6 million in federal student loans.
