Deland-Weldon Community Unit School District 57 Board of Education met Oct. 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL

The Board of Education of the DeLand-Weldon Community School District Number 57 met in regular session on October 16, 2019 in the DeLand-Weldon High School. Meeting was called to order at 6:31 p.m. with five members present.

Christy Knight Present

Josh Shofner Present

Shannon Summers Present

Mrs. Geary and Matt Goldman were also present.

Members Trimble and Roos were absent.

Mission statement was read by member Summers.

GOOD NEWS

a. Wyatt Summers was named Athlete of the Month for Boys Golf with Blue Ridge.

b. Colton Alwood was voted Student of the Quarter with Heartland Tech Academy for Auto Tech.

c. Wyatt Summers was voted Student of the Quarter with Heartland Tech Academy for Ag Mech and Tech.

d. Recent Parent/Teacher Conferences went very well.

GUESTS AND VISITORS

a. Louanna Miller is our new licensed therapist working with Piatt County Schools. She provided some of her work history, and spoke about the referral process for students in the school. Administration, as well as Ms. Miller, feel that her presence in the buildings every Wednesday has been very positive.

teacher.

Motion by Dean Bush, seconded by Josh Shofner to approve the consent agenda as presented.

a. Board Policies -

Motion by Josh Shofner, seconded by Dean Bush to place the Tentative Levy on Review.

OLD BUSINESS

a. Adopt Board Policies

Motion by Shannon Summers, seconded by Jamie Dunn to adopt the Board Policies as presented. Attachment A

b. Unexcused Absences Academic Policy

Motion by Josh Shofner, seconded by Dean Bush to change this policy to reflect 15 absences per year, and to strike the five day limit for vacations.

c. Construction Update

The roof has been leaking in the Spanish room. The leak has been sealed and we are now awaiting the next rain.

The gym floor sustained some water damage and Allred Floor Service is working on fixing the damages.

d. Strategic Plan

A meeting is still being planned. A notice will be sent out in the newsletter.

e. Transportation – No motion/no discussion
