Former state school employee Zellers paid in $26K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $889K in retirement

Former state school employee Susan Zellers, who retired in February 2016, saved $25,523 toward a pension over 6 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Zellers would collect as much as $889,424, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chambana Sun.

The projection assumes Zellers received $18,695 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Zellers will have already received $37,951 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
