Former state school employee Bard paid in $5K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $530K in retirement

Former state school employee Paula Bard, who retired in March 2016, saved $5,191 toward a pension over 7 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Bard would collect as much as $529,953, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Chambana Sun.

The projection assumes Bard received $11,139 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 1 years of retirement, Bard will have already received $11,139 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
