Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Community Unified School District 5 issued the following announcement on March 1.
The GCMS High School Chorus Department is pleased to announce this year’s musical, Guys and Dolls. Performances will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8th and Saturday, March 9th in the GCMS High School gymnasium. Reserved tickets are now on sale for $7.00. Call 784-4292 to purchase reserved seats.
Guys and Dolls is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. Set in New York City, Guys and Dolls follows small time gamblers Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson through their troubles with the law and with love. The original Broadway production ran for 1,200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical. It has had several Broadway and London revivals, as well as a 1955 film adaptation which starred Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando.
The GCMS production is under the direction of Amanda Broaddus. Choreography by Ann Spangler. Pit band direction by Krysti Brucker and Kyle Renchen.
Update:
GCMS High School will be adding an additional performance of our HS musical Guys and Dolls. The added performance will be on Saturday morning at 10:00. Tickets for this performance will be $5 and all seating will be general admission (no reserved seating). The administration and music department have had many discussions about a potential conflict involving the Boys State Basketball tournament and we have collaborated to provide positive experiences for both activities for our students, staff, and community. The musical performance schedule is listed below. (NOTE: This schedule will only be implemented IF the Boys Basketball Team continues to win and advances to the IHSA State Tournament.)
