The district transferred 17 students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.
According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 4,112 students during the year. That equates to 69.6 percent of the 5,912 students enrolled.
Students were expelled for 16 incidents with unspecified reasons, 13 incidents with violence without physical injury, six incidents with violence that caused physical injury, two incidents with drugs and one incident with a dangerous firearm weapon.
Of the 2,404 in-school suspensions, 1,344 were given to boys and 1,060 were given to girls, including 741 elementary or middle schoolers and 1,663 high schoolers.
The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 2,242 incidents. There were 154 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 2,234 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
Of the 1,670 out-of-school suspensions, 1,064 were given to boys and 606 were given to girls, including 1,058 elementary or middle schoolers and 612 high schoolers.
The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 894 incidents. There were 697 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 717 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
