Hoopeston Area Community Unit School District 11 students suspended, expelled 402 times in a single school year

Hoopeston Area Community Unit School District 11 reported one expulsions and 401 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 402 students during the year. That equates to 31.3 percent of the 1,286 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with drugs.

Of the 286 in-school suspensions, 222 were given to boys and 64 were given to girls, including 247 elementary or middle schoolers and 39 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 274 incidents. There were 11 incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 243 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 115 out-of-school suspensions, 79 were given to boys and 36 were given to girls, including 56 elementary or middle schoolers and 59 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 66 incidents. There were 43 incidents of a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm. For 40 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
