The calls in Champaign included 270 fires - 130 structure fires, 23 vehicle fires and 117 other fires. The fire department also responded to 17 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.
In all, the department saw $1,530,438 in fire loss - or about $5,668 per fire.
The department also received 1184 false calls, including 123 malicious calls and 1061 other false calls.
The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, seven fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and 16 were injured in non fire-related incidents.
The Champaign Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 101 active employees and 93 retired or inactive employees, was $3,304,946 in debt as of June 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $12,760 for every fire in 2016.
