Champaign County Convention And Visitors Bureau issued the following announcement on May 30.
Thirty Ultimate Frisbee college teams from across the Midwest will take over the Bill Seeber Complex in Rantoul, March 31–April 1, as they compete in Ultiment’s Illinois Invite for the title of champion. Twenty men’s teams and ten women’s teams will bring 450 athletes to the community.
“I've worked with Rantoul for years. They provide all the amenities needed to run a successful event. The township is very accommodating and friendly, they do excellent field work, and Rantoul and nearby towns provide the infrastructure to run a successful operation,” explains Noah Bane, organizer with Ultiment. “This tournament started in 2012-2013, and it is an annual college tournament. It draws teams from Colorado, Nebraska, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, and Illinois.”
Luke Humphrey from the Rantoul Recreation Department states, “The Village of Rantoul is excited to once again host the Ultiment frisbee tournament. The Bill Seeber Soccer Complex is a tremendous asset to the Village of Rantoul as it has the unique ability to host a tournament of this size. We look forward to this event every year and would like to extend a warm welcome to all competitors and spectators!”
Athletes will take advantage of overnight accommodations in Rantoul, contributing to the estimated economic impact of $208,000, per Ryan Reid, Director of Sports & Special Events at Visit Champaign County.
“Rantoul is an incredible host for sports tournaments and special events,” explains Reid. “They have a significant amount of flexible space, both with the Bill Seeber Soccer Complex and the Chanute Base which hosts the Half Century of Progress, that we are excited to see more big events head to this community.”
Competition begins at 9:00 a.m. on both Saturday, March 31 and April 1, with the champions starting at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. The event is open to the public. For more information on the event, visit www.ultiment.org/illinois-invite.
