St. Joseph Community Consolidated School District 169 Board of Education met August 8.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Board President, Lois Hewerdine, brought the regular August 8, 2017 meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Roll call was taken with the following members present: Lois Hewerdine, Scott Perkins, Jeff Hoveln,and Danielle Aguirre. Brooks Bennett-Miller, Jennifer Carlson, and Amy Smith were absent.

Review and Approve Minutes: Scott Perkins moved and Jeff Hoveln seconded the motion to approve the July 11, 2017 regular session and executive session minutes as amended. Voice vote: 3 Aye, 0 Nay, 1 Abstain. Motion carried.

Public Participation: None.

Financial Reports: Mr. Pence went over the state funding reports; discussed the Moody’s Investors Service Annual Comment; and reviewed the bills. The treasurer’s report wasn’t available due to the treasurer being on vacation.

Jeff Hoveln moved and Danielle Aguirre seconded the motion to approve the bills as presented. Roll call vote: Lois Hewerdine, Aye; Scott Perkins, Aye; Danielle Aguirre, Aye; and Jeff Hoveln, Aye. Motion carried.

Building and Maintenance Report: Mr. Pence gave the Board updates on summer work; 10 year Health, Life, Safety; and the lead testing results. Mr. Pence decided to table the discussion on the Assignment of Easement Rights to St. Joe Drainage District. Brian Brooks emailed Mr. Pence about a donation towards repairing the track at the high school. Mr. Pence will discuss this more with Mr. Brooks and report back to the Board next month.

Building Administrator Reports: Mr. Sennert presented a list of what will be done at the in-service and institute days; discussed Google Certified Education Training; and gave a registration update.

Mr. Graham gave a registration update; discussed softball, baseball, cross country and golf numbers; and thanked the Board on behalf of the coaches for the upkeep on the baseball/softball fields.

Superintendent’s Report: Mr. Pence discussed the FY 2018 Tentative Budget Report.

At 7:30 p.m. Jeff Hoveln moved and Scott Perkins seconded the motion to go into executive session for the discussion of performance, discipline, appointment, employment, terms and conditions of employment and compensation of personnel. Voice Vote: 4 Aye, 0 Nay.

At 7:40 p.m. Scott Perkins moved and Jeff Hoveln seconded the motion to come out of executive session. Voice Vote: 4 Aye, 0 Nay.

Action Items: Scott Perkins moved and Danielle Aguirre seconded the motion to approve the FY 2018 Tentative Budget and place it on public display for 30 days. Voice vote: 4 Aye, 0 Nay. Motion carried.

The motion to approve Assignment of Easement Rights to St. Joseph Drainage District was tabled.

Jeff Hoveln moved and Danielle Aguirre seconded the motion to accept the resignation of Sheila Keith. Voice vote: 4 Aye, 0 Nay. Motion carried.

Danielle Aguirre moved and Scott Perkins seconded the motion to hire Nicole Pryor and a Special Education Aide; Diane Eiskamp as a Grade School cafeteria worker replacing Michelle Guido who resigned at the end of the 2016-17 school year and approve Brian Kearney as a volunteer 5th Grade Girls Basketball Coach. Roll call vote: Lois Hewerdine, Aye; Scott Perkins, Aye; Danielle Aguirre, Aye; and Jeff Hoveln, Aye. Motion carried.

At 7:45 p.m. Jeff Hoveln moved and Scott Perkins seconded the motion to adjourn the meeting. Voice Vote: 4 Aye, 0 Nay.
