Atwood FPD responds to 15 fires in 2016

Atwood Fire Protection District responded to 22 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the East Central Reporter.

The calls in Atwood included 15 fires - eight structure fires, two vehicle fires and five other fires.

In all, the department saw $17,200 in fire loss - or about $1,147 per fire.

The department also received seven false calls, including one malicious call and 6 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Atwood FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has active employee and two retired or inactive employees, was $13,906 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $927 for every fire in 2016.
