Champaign County Racial Justice Task Force (RJTF) Community Engagement Subcommittee met May 4.

Here is the minutes provided by the Task Force:

I. Call to Order

David called the meeting to order at 6:51.

II. Roll Call

Members Present:

D. Harber, R. Hughes, G. Walter.

Members Absent: S. Byndom, C. Randolph.

III. Approval of Agenda

David moved to approve the agenda. Ryan seconded the motion. The motion carried.

IV. Approval of Minutes

There were no minutes to approve.

V. Public Participation

Paul Min - Paul is working for a legal tech startup that is working to improve access to legal services, including civil and criminal cases. He has worked with Land of Lincoln Legal Services to develop an expungement process. He wants to learn more about the legal and criminal justice system and the RJTF was recommended to him as a place to start.

VI. Updates and Discussion

Feedback on Draft Sections

David was very pleased with the draft of the introduction section. It will be revised some more by Gerry.

David discussed his draft and how it was formatted. There was a discussion regarding media outlets and framing messages.

Ryan will do his draft of the literature review. A separate section for the database was discussed. Carolyn’s presentation at the data workshop could be used to create this. Paul asked about ideas for making the database self-sufficient. He discussed with the group who the “community” is and who may be users of the database.

David moved to adjourn.
