Detective Andre Davis and Rebecca Martin weren't the only honorees feted by the Champaign Police Department this year.
Davis was named officer of the year, and Martin, a police information resource specialist, earned the employee of the year honor, but the department also saluted citizens who brought assistance at the scene of an incident with “Heroes and Helping Hands” awards.
The annual event is billed as a way of thanking those who do their most to provide service to the community and fulfill the vows of “service through trust, integrity and respect.” The main honorees are nominated by their coworkers.
“Our employees truly do outstanding work to help keep our community safe," Police Chief Anthony Cobb said in a statement. "Having this opportunity to highlight just some of the ways in which our employees and citizens go above and beyond for their neighbors is a small way for us to say thank you, we see you, and we appreciate you.”
