Gov. Bruce Rauner recently encouraged Illinois leaders and citizens to push for term limits in Illinois, especially given the decades that House Speaker Michael Madigan has enjoyed in government.

Rauner is asking lawmakers to approve term limits to stop politicians from taking advantage of their long terms – and of citizens.

"I was in second grade when this photo [of Madigan in office] was taken,” Rauner said. “I'm 53 and he's still in power. We need term limits to help return our state legislature back to citizen governance. I will fight for term limits and limit myself to no more than four terms. And I will refuse the platinum pension legislators give themselves at huge taxpayer expense. Please LIKE and SHARE to help me spread the word about my campaign!"

Rauner’s encouragement increased when he learned that Cook County chose to stop the state's Independent Legislative Map Boundaries proposal. In light of this, he has further pushed for term limits to be part of the fall agenda for the General Assembly.

“We cannot let this stand,” Rauner said. “The only way to overcome entrenched political power is for the people of Illinois to never give up, to keep pushing forward for reform.”

Polls show that approximately 80 percent of Illinois voters prefer term limits. Rauner is going to dedicate himself to resolving this problem for the good of the Illinois people.

“I've learned just how entrenched the politicians holding power are,” Rauner said. “They don't want to change. They are focused on their own power, rather than empowering people. But I have also learned that you want me to keep working to fix our broken political system.”
