Urbana slashes minimum fine for cannabis possession

Anyone caught with cannabis in Urbana will pay a drastically lower minimum fine, following a 6-1 vote by the Urbana City Council April 4.

The ordinance lowers the minimum fine from $300 to $50.

The ordinance passed by the council said the amount would be adequate to ensure the public good.

Council member Michael Madigan was the lone nay vote.
