The Champaign Public Library (CPL) hosted a variety of programs in celebration of National Library Week.
The festivities began Saturday with a screening of the film "Plight of the Monarch" and the distribution of free packets of seeds for starting a butterfly garden. The library also offered free book, movie and music rentals.
The CPL wrapped up its celebration with a raffle for a new 64 GB Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 on Tuesday. Library members were automatically entered in the raffle based on how many items they checked out during the week.
With a four-star rating from Library Journal, the CPL is among the top 3 percent of libraries in the country.
National Library Week was created by the American Library Association in 1958 as an opportunity for libraries to showcase their services and be acknowledged for the role they play in their communities.
