Stratton Academy of the Arts, MicroSociety and Leadership has received a $95,459 grant from the Illinois State Board of Education to expand arts instruction and integrate the arts into core classes.
The Arts and Foreign Language Implementation grant will help Stratton continue to develop the arts initiatives begun under a planning grant two years ago.
“AFL grant funds will allow for critical upgrades to our stage, professional development for our staff and an infusion of educational resources needed to ensure that the school has a solid arts foundation on which to grow," Principal Stephanie Eckels said.
Stratton received one of three AFL awards handed out this year.
School officials highlighted upcoming events such as the student art fair and themed, grade-specific creative showcases as examples of the school's commitment to the importance of arts education.
