The Champaign City Council will vote on a set of amendments tonight that would increase bike parking for mutli-unit residential buildings, particularly in the University District.
The amendments lay out the number of required bike parking spaces for each type of residential housing, acceptable bike rack designs, and specifications for where the bike parking should be located.
The amendments also require property owners in the city's commercial district to provide bike parking any time they also provide car parking.
If passed, the amendments would require property owners who object to the rules to seek a variance from these rules just like any other zoning code.
The city will also consider approving a services contract with Engineering Resource Associates Inc. for this year's bridge maintenance work and an agreement with Microsurfacing Contractors LLC for the 2016 Slurry Seal Project.
The council is expected to allow the mayor to make two appointments on the School Location Task Force and to vote on approving the appointment of Ebony Shackelford II to the Champaign Human Relations Commission.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Champaign City Building, 102 N. Neil St.
