The website niche.com recently ranked Mahomet the third-best town in Illinois to raise a family as part of its 2015 Best Places Survey.
The survey considered information on school ratings, crime, age, demographics, the affordability of housing, and access to child care. Mahomet received an A rating on community investment and and involvement, education and housing; a B+ on crime and safety; a C+ for library access; and C ratings for access to day cares and grocery stores.
Mahomet was topped by Evanston and Schaumberg, which earned three A ratings, and two A+ ratings.
The survey defined a "town" as having under 100,000 people.
