Library trustees craft job description for interim director

Library

The Champaign Public Library trustees discussed roles and responsibilities for its interim director during an Oct. 21 meeting at the Douglass branch.

The interim director has not been named, but will fill a role similar to library director, trustees said. Library staffer Marsha Grove said the new hire will shadow her at meetings and budget discussions that take place during the period. The job description for the permanent library director will also take into account the results of several focus groups that provided feedback during the library's Visioning 2020 project.

The board also voted to reauthorize its lease for 21 staff parking spaces at 605 S. Randolph St. The renewed lease agreement is between the Kermit Nogle Trust and Jewel Foods and will last for five years.

The library will also revive its "Champaign Public Library All-Star" staff recognition program. The program lets staff nominate one another for exceptional work during a given period. The nominations are approved and the all-stars acknowledged by library managers.

Board members Mark Ballard and Orlando Thomas were absent.
