The village of Rantoul will switch to single-stream recycling collection in the new year.
Single-stream pickup means that residents will no longer need to separate their different types of recycling before they put them out to the curb.
Recyclable materials include plastics numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7; broken down cardboard; newspapers and similar paper material; steel; aluminum and bi-metal cans; clear glass; and cereal and gift boxes. All recyclables put out for collection should be rinsed of food or other particles and should not contain any hazardous material. Styrofoam will not be collected.
Pickup for recycling and trash will occur during the first and third week of the month, with different days for different areas of the village.
Recyclables should be out on the curb no later than 6 a.m. the day of collection.
