Mahomet trustees receive report on stray pets

Mahometoffice

The Mahomet Board of Trustees held its regular meeting recently at the village of Mahomet administrative offices.

Police Chief Mike Metzler addressed an ongoing issue with stray animals. He said the department has begun tracking the animals attached to residents' calls and concluded that there are "repeat offenders." Police have purchased a device to read the microchips embedded in many of the animals that contain owner contact information. All of the animals have been able to be reunited with their owners, who are charged a fee each time police need to return their pet. None has been taken to the pound.

The board approved construction plans for the proposed Harvest Edge housing development so that the developer can get started at the beginning of the construction season. Final plans for the overall site will still need to be adjusted to meet village regulations, and be approved at a separate meeting in the future.

The board also approved paying an $80,955 bill from Barton Electric for new lights and wiring at Taylor Field.
