Adam Jilly reaches ITA Midwest Regional quarterfinals as Illinois collects 11 wins

Illinois wrapped up its participation at the ITA Midwest Regional in Chicago, achieving a total of 11 wins during the event. Adam Jilly advanced to the singles quarterfinals, securing a ranked victory along the way. Teammates Sasha Colleu and Jeremy Zhang also recorded singles wins throughout the week.

Colleu began with two straight-set victories in the singles qualifying draw, defeating Iker Dellien from Northern Illinois and then Eldin Nokic of UIC to earn a spot in the main draw. In doubles play, Zhang paired with Hayden Jones for an 8-5 win over UIC’s Youssef Mokhles and Mihailo Savic, while Colleu and Jilly posted an 8-4 win against Toledo’s Charlie Snow and Cole Cozens.

In subsequent doubles rounds, Jones and Zhang were eliminated in the second round, but Colleu and Jilly continued with an 8-6 victory over Notre Dame’s Perry Gregg and Kyran Magimay before falling to Ohio State’s Aidan Kim and Bryce Nakashima.

During singles main draw action, Illinois earned three first-round victories. Zhang defeated Andy Hadziabdic of DePaul; Jilly won against Notre Dame’s Kyran Magimay after three sets; and Colleu came back to beat Ethan Schiffman from Northwestern. Both Colleu and Zhang lost to nationally ranked opponents in the second round on Saturday. Jilly continued his run by defeating Wisconsin’s Tomas Zlatohlavek and later secured a ranked win over No. 51 Bryce Nakashima from Ohio State to reach Sunday’s quarterfinals.

Jilly was eventually defeated by No. 67 Jack Anthrop of Ohio State in three sets during the quarterfinals.

In consolation matches, Jeremy Zhang added another singles win for Illinois by beating Tomas Zlatohlavek of Wisconsin.
