The University of Illinois men's golf team, ranked eighth nationally, finished the first day of the Moraine Intercollegiate tied for third place. The team posted a combined score of 15-under par through 36 holes at Moraine Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.

Illinois shares third place with Penn State, trailing Missouri by six shots with one round remaining. Xavier holds second place at 17-under, and Iowa is fifth at 14-under.

Senior Ryan Voois leads the Illini lineup and is tied for fourth individually after shooting rounds of 69 and 67 to reach six-under par. "He was bogey-free in Round 2 after offsetting a pair of bogeys with four birdies in his opening round," according to the team report.

Freshman Dujuan Snyman, competing as an individual, is one stroke behind tournament leader Veikka Viskari from Missouri. Snyman shot a career-best round of 66 in the afternoon session after opening with a 69. "Snyman bogeyed his first hole of the day, the Par-4 14th, before closing out his opening round of 69 (-2) with birdies on Holes 18, 3, and 9. He remained bogey-free in Round 2 and carded five more birdies to finish off a career-best round of 66 (-5)."

Seniors Max Herendeen and sophomore Freddie Turnell are both tied for nineteenth place after contributing solid scores to Illinois' total. Herendeen recovered from an early deficit to shoot six-under over his final holes, while Turnell followed up a first-round score of one-under-par with a two-under in Round Two.

Sophomore Trey Marrion sits just outside the top twenty after posting consecutive rounds of one-under-par. Junior Dane Huddleston is tied for thirty-second following rounds of seventy and seventy-one.

Other individual competitors for Illinois include junior Ethan Wilson and sophomore Jake Birdwell, who are both tied for twenty-sixth at two-under-par. Birdwell achieved a personal best with his second-round score.
