On October 12, 2025, the Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire at a 12-unit multi-family apartment building in the 2400 block of High View Ct. at 4:08 p.m. According to the department, fire crews rescued nine occupants from the building.
Firefighters were dispatched after receiving multiple reports of a fire in the three-story apartment building. While en route, heavy smoke was visible and the incident was upgraded to a second alarm. Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy fire coming from balconies on both the second and third floors. Eight occupants were located on adjacent balconies and were rescued using ladders. Multiple hose lines were deployed to control and extinguish the blaze. In addition, a ninth occupant and a dog were rescued from inside an apartment.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined as investigators continue their work at the scene. One occupant received treatment at the scene and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. No firefighter injuries were reported.
