On October 9, 2025, Miller addressed comments made by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer regarding the shutdown’s political implications. She wrote, "While troops miss paychecks, seniors struggle, and farmers face uncertainty, @SenSchumer brags that the shutdown 'gets better for us (Democrats).' That tells you everything. Democrats celebrate while Americans are suffering."
Later the same day, Miller criticized Illinois Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth for their voting records during previous government shutdown episodes. She stated, ".@SenatorDurbin and @SenDuckworth sold out hard-working Illinois farmers by voting to shut down the government SEVEN TIMES, blocking the support our producers depend on. Illinois farmers feed and fuel America. This is unacceptable!"
On October 10, 2025, Miller assured constituents that her office remains operational despite the ongoing shutdown. Mary Miller has represented Illinois’ 15th district in Congress since 2021 after succeeding John Shimkus. In previous elections, she won decisively against Democratic challengers Paul Lange in 2022 and Erika Weaver in 2020.
