Rachel Joy, Director of the Equity and Engagement Department for the City of Champaign, was a guest speaker at the final session of the Welcoming America Certified Leadership 2025 cohort. The event took place on Thursday, October 9.

The session was titled “Sustaining and Growing Welcoming Infrastructure.” Communities from several states—including California, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Utah—were represented in the cohort.

The Welcoming America Certified Leadership program is designed to bring together community leaders to share strategies and best practices for fostering inclusive environments. The participation of Champaign’s Equity and Engagement Department highlights the city’s involvement in national conversations about welcoming communities.

Joy’s contribution as a speaker reflects ongoing efforts by local officials to engage with broader initiatives supporting equity and inclusion.
