On July 25, 2025, the Timberline Valley South Homeowners Association (HOA) completed the removal of a tree that had fallen from their common area onto a neighboring private property fence. The tree was uprooted as a result of shoreline erosion along the nearby detention basin.

To help pay for the removal, the HOA used funds from the City of Champaign’s small grant program. The association has also applied for another small grant to assist with costs related to repairing the eroded shoreline near the detention basin.

The incident highlights ongoing maintenance needs in neighborhood common areas and shows how local associations may seek municipal support through grant programs to address such issues.
