Illinois 4-H members gathered at the University of Illinois campus on June 25 for the 2025 Illinois 4-H Poultry Judging Contest. This event offered participants hands-on experience in evaluating poultry and eggs according to industry standards, emphasizing quality, safety, and nutrition. Myla Munro, a 4-H Youth Development Educator and contest coordinator, highlighted the benefits of the event: “This event helps youth develop skills in observation, critical thinking, and decision-making - skills that will benefit them far beyond their time in the 4-H program.”
The contest identified top performers who will represent Illinois at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference in Louisville, KY. Senior individual placings were led by Kari Weir from DuPage County. The senior team from Adams County took first place. In junior categories, Austin Ater from Champaign County secured first place individually, while Adams County won as a team.
For more information on youth poultry programming, interested parties are encouraged to contact their local Extension Office.
