Fighting Illini women's basketball head coach Shauna Green has announced that Gisela Segura will be joining the team. Segura, a graduate transfer from LIU, has signed a Big Ten Tender of Financial Aid with the University of Illinois and is set to play for the 2025-26 season.
Segura is a forward standing at 5-foot-11 inches from Cervera, Spain. She attended Institut Joaquim Blume before beginning her collegiate career at Division II Franklin Pierce in the 2020-21 season. During her four years there, she missed the 2022-23 season. Last year, she transferred to LIU as a graduate student.
At LIU, Segura averaged 5.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and played an average of 27.3 minutes per game. She appeared in 22 games with 19 starts and achieved a season-high of ten points against Le Moyne and six rebounds against Mercyhurst.
While at Franklin Pierce from 2020 to 2024, Segura participated in 60 games and accumulated totals of 414 points, 263 rebounds, and other significant stats over her tenure there.
Head Coach Shauna Green expressed her enthusiasm for Segura's addition: "I am super excited to have Gisela join our FamILLy. She brings experience to our program and a competitive spirit of doing whatever it takes to help us win."
Gisela Segura explained her choice: "I chose Illinois because it feels like they are more than just a basketball program... The energy, the vision, and the culture at Illinois all align with who I am."
Segura was born on December 10, 2002, and is the daughter of Elisabet Segura Marin with one brother named Pau.
