Illinois head coach Katie Hultin has announced the addition of goalkeeper Cailynn Junk to the Fighting Illini soccer roster for the 2025 season. The St. Joseph, Michigan native joins after a successful season with Grand Valley State, where she played a crucial role in leading the Lakers to an NCAA Division II Midwest Regional championship.

In 2024, Junk was named the GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year and earned a spot on the All-GLIAC First Team. Her performance included a 13-1-8 record, 12 clean sheets, and a .898 save percentage. She also made 79 saves and maintained an average of 0.41 goals allowed per game. During her high school career at St. Joseph High School, she was recognized as a two-time all-state and three-time all-conference selection.

Expressing her enthusiasm for Junk's addition, Hultin stated, "We are so excited to have Cailynn join the Illini! She's an incredible shot stopper, great in the air and she strives for greatness day in and day out. We can't wait for her to come in and make an impact!"

Junk, reflecting on her decision, shared, "I chose the University of Illinois because it offers the perfect balance between competitive soccer and strong academics, allowing me to pursue my athletic goals at a high level while also receiving a top-quality education."
