Andrej Stojakovic has signed a Big Ten Athletics Aid Agreement to join the University of Illinois Fighting Illini as a transfer player. Head coach Brad Underwood announced the signing, stating, "Andrej is a veteran, proven scorer who does it in all three facets: catch and shoot, off the dribble, and post ups." Underwood praised Stojakovic’s skills, including his "great size on the perimeter, ball handling skills, playmaking abilities, quickness on the defensive end, and knack for blocking shots."
Stojakovic is a 6-foot-7-inch, 205-pound guard from Carmichael, California. Previously, he had a successful year at Cal, where he led the team with an average of 17.9 points per game, ranking sixth in the ACC. He finished his season in style during the ACC Tournament, scoring a career-high 37 points against Stanford. This performance earned him a spot on the ACC All-Tournament First Team.
Stojakovic, who also received NABC All-Pacific District Second Team and All-ACC Honorable Mention honors, averaged 17.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 blocks for the season. In addition to scoring, he led Cal with 34 blocks, including a career-high six blocks against Notre Dame.
His college career began at Stanford, where as a freshman he averaged 7.8 points and 3.4 rebounds. Over two seasons, he has played in 61 games, averaging 12.6 points and 4.0 rebounds with a 42% shooting percentage.
Before college, Stojakovic was a McDonald's All-American and graduated from Jesuit High School. He was highly ranked by several major recruiting services. He is also the son of former NBA player Peja Stojakovic.
Stojakovic's signing is the second major transfer acquisition for Illinois, following Zvonimir Ivisic from Arkansas. The Fighting Illini has been successful under Underwood, with the program recently achieving a 22-win season and a spot in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
