Fighting Illini women's basketball team has added Maddie Webber, a junior transfer from Villanova, ahead of the 2025-26 season. Webber has signed a Big Ten Tender of Financial Aid with the University of Illinois.
Webber, from Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, is a guard standing at 5-foot-11 inches. She has been a key player for Villanova, starting all 36 games in the last season, where she averaged 13.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists over 1,189 minutes as a sophomore.
During her second-year stint at Villanova, she contributed to the Wildcats' 21-15 overall record and an 11-6 BIG EAST conference record. The team reached the WBIT semifinals after securing a No. 4 seed.
"Maddie brings college experience to us and is someone who can play multiple positions," said Illini Head Coach Shauna Green on Webber's transfer. "I can't wait to get Maddie to campus and get to work!"
Webber was Villanova's second-leading scorer in the 2024-25 season and their top 3-point shooter with 57 threes. She played a crucial role in the Wildcats’ success and earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors, highlighted by scoring 30 points against DePaul on February 12.
In her first year at Villanova, she received BIG EAST All-Rookie Team recognition. Despite a season shortened by injury, she helped the team achieve a 22-13 record.
Over her time at Villanova, Webber appeared in 65 games, starting 47, with averages of 29.3 minutes, 702 points, 182 rebounds, 109 assists, 45 steals, and 26 blocks. Her shooting accuracy was 38.3% from the field and 29.1% from beyond the arc. From the free-throw line, her success rate was 75.9%.
At South Fayette High School, Webber scored 1,387 points and averaged 17.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.0 steals in her final year. She was recognized with multiple accolades, including twice earning all-state and all-region first-team honors, and her selection as a McDonald's All-American nominee.
Webber expressed enthusiasm about her decision to join Illinois, stating, "The program has the will, people, resources, and facilities that make it truly special."
