Building permits issued for projects valued at $250,000 or more in Champaign

The Champaign Fire Department's Building Safety Division has released a compilation of recently issued building permits for projects exceeding $250,000 in estimated construction value. These permits encompass various types of construction activities, ranging from new developments to alterations of existing structures.

On February 24, 2025, a permit was issued for a new single-family dwelling (SFD) at 3901 Boulder Ridge with an estimated construction value of $270,000. The same date marked the issuance of a permit for a hotel remodel at 302 W Anthony, valued at $282,000. The most significant project, with a construction value of $20,295,000, is a new multi-family development at 505 S Fifth Street.

Further approvals include an alteration of a restaurant at 301 N Neil Street valued at $256,000, and on March 3, 2025, two new SFDs were permitted on Palmer Drive, each valued at $375,000. Significant investments have also been made in new and existing multifamily complexes, such as the $11,250,000 project at 60 E Green Street issued on March 4, 2025.

Other notable permits include a church alteration at 909 S Wright for $725,000 and a fire station alteration at 307 S Randolph, valued at $250,000. Additions and alterations also extend to commercial spaces like a car dealership and a bakery, with values of $796,500 and $495,000, respectively.

An alteration on April 1, 2025, at 101 W University targeted a hospital clinic, valued at $579,258. A few days later, on April 8, a fraternity's alteration at 312 E Armory Ave received a permit with a construction valuation of $3,490,000. The cumulative construction value for these permits in 2025 has reached $51,669,947.
