Illini women's golf leads Boilermaker Spring Classic with seven-stroke advantage

Fighting Illini women's golf team is leading after the first day of the Boilermaker Spring Classic, held at Ackerman-Allen Course in West Lafayette, Indiana. The team finished the day at 1-over (577), holding a seven-stroke lead over second-placed Denver.

Illinois golfers Anna Ritter and Yurang Li are tied for fourth place in the individual leaderboard at 2-under (142). Ritter has maintained consistency with consecutive rounds of 71, achieving five birdies and only two bogeys or worse. Her 29 pars and par 3 scoring average of 2.75 (-2) lead the field after 36 holes. Li finished her first round at even par (72) and improved with a round of 70, recording seven birdies, the most on her team and tied for sixth in the field. Her par 3 scoring average of 2.88 (-1) was the second lowest of the day.

Lexanne Halama made a notable jump on the leaderboard, moving up 30 spots to tie for 16th place after shooting a second round of 70 with five birdies. Victoria Zheng is tied for 23rd after rounds of 78 and 70, while Brielle Mapanao is tied for 63rd. Erica Lee, playing individually, is tied for 23rd with two rounds of 74.

The individual tournament lead is held by Illinois State's Elise Fennell at 6-under (138).

The final round kicks off tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
