State Senator Chapin Rose | Illinois General Assembly
State Senator Chapin Rose has expressed satisfaction following the advancement of a bill aimed at protecting the Mahomet Aquifer. The bill, which proposes a ban on CO2 storage under the aquifer, was moved forward by the Energy Committee.
Senator Rose stated, “I’m pleased to see the bill to ban CO2 storage under the Mahomet Aquifer finally pass out of committee this morning. I’m grateful to the countless central Illinoisans who have called, written, and emailed in support of this important bill; it wouldn’t have happened without their voices.”
The senator acknowledged Senator Faraci's efforts and noted his own role as Chief Co-Sponsor on what he described as a bipartisan initiative. However, he cautioned that further steps are required for full legislative approval. "But the fight isn’t over," he remarked. "It still needs to pass the Senate, House, and be signed by Governor J.B Pritzker who, I would point out, is the same governor who put us in this position by cutting a backroom deal with his billionaire buddies to leave the Mahomet Aquifer unprotected."
Emphasizing public health concerns related to water quality, Rose urged continued advocacy: “Clean water is not negotiable, so keep the pressure on because we’re not done yet.”
