On February 19, 2025, City Manager Joan Walls, Community Relations Manager Tracy Parsons, and Community Relations Specialist Mikal Washington from the Equity and Engagement Department attended the LIFT Black History Month event at Neil St. Blues.

Champaign County Clerk Aaron Ammons presented on the expungement process. His session was particularly beneficial for those facing legal challenges or with family members who have criminal records. Ammons explained eligibility criteria and benefits of record clearing, providing practical solutions and hope for individuals seeking a fresh start.

The event also offered students an opportunity to learn about historical Black figures' contributions to society. By showcasing resilience, innovation, and leadership, it encouraged students to see themselves as participants in positive change within their community and beyond.
