A Champaign woman has been arrested following an investigation into a November 2024 stabbing death. The Champaign Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at 5:19 p.m. on November 16, 2024, at the 2000 Block of Cynthia Drive. Upon arrival, they found 71-year-old W. B. Curry of Champaign unresponsive with a stab wound that was potentially life-threatening. Despite efforts by officers and personnel from the Champaign Fire Department to administer lifesaving measures, Mr. Curry was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation revealed that Curry had been involved in a domestic altercation with 67-year-old Dewandee Carter of Champaign, during which she allegedly stabbed him in the chest. Carter was initially arrested on November 16, 2024, but released without charges at that time. As the investigation progressed, an arrest warrant for Carter was issued on February 10, 2025. She was subsequently arrested by Champaign Police on February 11, 2025, charged with First-Degree Murder.
