The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a multi-family apartment complex on the 2100 block of W. White St. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:41 a.m. Fire crews are still present, working to extinguish any remaining hot spots.
Firefighters received multiple reports of a fire in the three-story apartment building. Upon arrival, they reported heavy fire from the third floor extending into the attic. The structure was identified as condemned, and firefighters quickly extended multiple hose lines to combat the blaze. They encountered significant fire while searching and fighting it. A second alarm was called, prompting crews to exit the building and adopt a defensive strategy.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined as investigators continue their work on-site. No firefighter injuries have been reported.
