Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen, City Of Champaign | City Of Champaign website
On January 17, 2025, Council Member Kathy Shannon and Communications Manager Jeff Hamilton participated in the Environmental Leadership Program at the University of Illinois. Council Member Shannon discussed her role as a City Council member, offering advice on effective advocacy for residents and detailing the impact of the City's land use policy on climate change and the environment.
Following her talk, Jeff Hamilton provided an explanation of Champaign’s Council-Manager form of government. He also outlined how policy issues are brought to the City Council for discussion. The event was attended by approximately 30 students, both in person and virtually. The students actively engaged with the presentations and posed insightful questions afterward.
This marks the fourth year that representatives from the City have been invited to share information with participants in the Environmental Leadership Program.
